Description:

Prison City Switch has returned to the past for Prison City, a hard-boiled action platformer which is quite clearly a tribute to the Capcom and Konami classic action game platformers from the NES era. It is aesthetically pleasing, sounds terrific, has short but entertaining levels, some fairly grueling boss fights, and a lot of 80’s and 90’s movie and video game references, but the uneven difficulty level – likely just as it was in the 80s and 90s, too – is pretty hard for my old gamer-ass to stomach.

I think it’s best to do the Tutorial first, before entering the Prison City itself, as there are a lot of different ways to move around an environment in Prison City, with the Chakram being a big part of that. In particular, the Chakram is not able to be shot through walls unless fully upgraded, and Hal will be doing a lot of grate-crawling and pipe-hanging. The Chakram can be shot up and down, and can be deflected back and forth (albeit with some difficulty).

Prison City NSP Key features:

  • Chakram & Grenades: You don’t use only standard projectile guns to fight, but by throwing a razor-sharp frisbee called a chakram and throwing grenades.
  • Power-Up System: Acquire three power-ups and get special powers, for example, a more powerful chakram, an increase in chakram width, or temporary invincibility.
  • Exploration: Metroid-Lite levels are mostly linear, but have hidden corners and off the beaten paths to find power-ups and hidden upgrades.
  • Open-Ended Stages: Once you are given an introduction level, you are taken to a “stage select” screen and are able to try out the 8 main stages of the game in any order.
  • Diverse Environments: The Detroit-based zones have significantly different terrain, including sewers with mutated monsters, rooftops, a decaying freeway, a sports stadium, and a last, well-defended DCP Headquarters.

Installation Instructions

There is no difference between NSP and XCI formats — both run exactly the same on any Nintendo Switch emulator. Your downloaded Prison City file is in NSP format.
To play on an emulator, open your emulator, go to File → Load File (or drag and drop), and select the downloaded NSP file.
Ensure your emulator has at least Firmware 16.1.0 installed before launching Prison City.
On a hacked Nintendo Switch, install the file using Tinfoil (highly recommended) or DBI Installer.
The direct download link may occasionally be slow or unavailable due to high traffic. If it fails, please wait a moment and try again.
