When Pokkén Tournament came out on the Wii U back in 2016, we thought it was a great melding of the world of Pokémon and the fighting genre, awarding it an 8.0. As our reviewer, Darry Huskey, remarked last year, Pokkén Tournament packs a lot of the stuff that’s good from the fighting games that have come before it, and puts it in a blender that resulted in something new and different, both in terms of Pokémon and in terms of fighting games.

There is a surprising amount to learn beyond the beginner’s level, and that may repel some Pokémon fans who haven’t had any experience with fighting games – all those ingredients may overflow a container that is just too full when Pokkén Tournament was released for the Wii U back in 2016.

Pokkén Tournament DX NSP Key Features:

• More Characters: Play as more than 21 Battle Pokémon, including console-exclusive characters such as Decidueye, and DLC characters such as Aegislash and Blastoise. Unlocking all characters and support.
• Dynamic Battle System: Matches alternate between two modes: the Field Phase (free 360-degree movement and projectile battle system) and the Duel Phase (traditional 2D side-scrolling battle system).
• Synergy Burst Mode: Add more units to your Synergy Gauge to temporarily Mega Evolve your Pokémon or increase their stats to enable you to launch insanely strong signature “Burst Attacks”.
• Team Battle: Battle in elimination-style 3v3 battles with your 3 chosen Pokémon.
• Support Pokémon: Select any of the 16 different support pairs (e.g., Litten and Popplio) to summon into the arena for buffs or debuffs.
