Description:

Constance for Nintendo Switch is a stunning 2D hand-drawn action adventure that makes creating come alive in a fierce battle. The visually arresting game, developed by indie studio Blue Backpack and published by btf, invites the player into the shattered mind of its protagonist in a world where the paint is a weapon and salvation. The game’s brush-stroke-based mechanics result in an unparalleled sense of flow, as players control the environment from their carefully placed brushstrokes and make their way through Constance’s crumbling mental state.

The surreal, hand-drawn inner world, as much character as its namesake protagonist, unfolds in Constance. The vibrant but decaying world is a direct reflection of Constance’s mental state, with each biome being a reflection of different aspects of her psyche and personal history. The game’s art style is a wonderful tool for emotional storytelling, and it uses colour and linework to represent Constance’s emotional experience, from the warmth of creative inspiration to the cold isolation of her experiences.

Key Features:

• If the user never gives it a break, constantly using the “Paint” ability will make Constance “corrupt”. Corrupted, special moves take health away from the user, and require tactical, thought-out approaches to combat rather than random button-mashing.
• Combat Style: Buffs and “inspirations” can be attached to Constance to change her combat style. These can be upgraded, and she can be made to perform as you want to.
• Choice-Driven Death System: If you die, you are given a choice between respawning at a rest point or going through the game without stopping – the latter will let you take more damage from enemies and have more health.
• In-game camera: You can use the in-game camera to take pictures of areas on your map that you want to come back to after unlocking new traversal, as opposed to memorizing them.
• Paint-Based Traversal & Combat: You have a magic paintbrush as your main weapon. Explore surfaces, dash through obstacles, pogo off enemies, and make exploding paint clones to help solve environmental puzzles and to win quick action battles!
