In Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: Gathering Storm, the player gets to experience an active planet, with climate and tectonics posing new challenges. You are driven to adapt to a changing environment because of floods, droughts, and strong storms; and your decisions can affect the global temperature, which may lead to melting ice caps and rising sea levels.

There are several new civilizations in the game (not present in previous versions of Civilization) and numerous civilizations from old Civilization have new leaders and/or capitals. One of the key points in the critical design process was to not make the player traverse a system of improvement paths towards the player’s own civilization that he or she had seen in previous games.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI NSP Key Features:

• Expansive Empires: Cities and World Wonders was spread out on the map on individual hexes. In lieu of packing all buildings into a city centre.
• Districts: In previous games, all buildings were located in the city center, but in the majority of games, they must be placed in districts in the map’s specified area (e.g. Campus, Science; Commercial Hub, Gold).
• Dynamic Diplomacy: The relationships of leaders change over time. In this game, war declaration and forming alliances becomes more nuanced with a new “warmonger score” replaced by “Grievances”.
• Expansions such as Active Planet (Expansions): Global warming, natural disasters and climate change impact your tiles.
• Expansions (Great Ages & Loyalty): New features such as Rise and Fall add a Loyalty mechanic, which means that poorly managed cities can rebel. You can take your empire into “Golden Ages” for huge bonuses, or “Dark Ages” to gain heroic benefits.
