Dragon Quest Builders After being questing, building and defending its virtual towns on all sorts of other platforms, including other ‘portables’ such as the PlayStation Vita, Dragon Quest Builders has finally come to Nintendo Switch with its masonry goods. But can Square Enix’s genre-blending take anything new from the handheld’s trove?

That was in the back of this reviewer’s mind when first playing the first Dragon Quest Builders. Yes, it was a game all about big blocks of different materials, and yes, its primary gameplay was all about building and creating. But thanks to a fully-fledged campaign.

Dragon Quest Builders NSP Key Features:

• Town Building & Progression: Your strength is directly correlated with the growth of your town. The base level is upgraded with the creation of certain rooms (kitchens, bedrooms, workshops), and more NPCs will be drawn to protect your base and provide you with new recipes.
• Hunger: You have a hunger bar and need to find, catch, and cook food to maintain your energy. Also, the weapons, armor, tools, etc., will wear out with time,e and you will have to constantly build new ones.
• Action Combat & Boss Raids: Encounter classic Dragon Quest monsters in real-time combat. Expect to have to construct walls to defend against large hordes of creatures and create special equipment to deal with giant bosses throughout the game.
• Progression: The campaign is broken down into chapter-based units. In each new chapter, you are given a new area and have to create a town again from scratch with the resources at your disposal.
• Free Build Mode (Terra Incognita): Chapter 1 will unlock the Free Build Mode (Terra Incognita). You can experiment, build unlimited recipes, and enjoy all the recipes you learned during the story.
