DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Dark Prince. Is not the most traditional Dragon Quest game, but it’s going against expectations even in some less obvious ways. Unlike the typical Dragon Quest game, which is about a party of humans taking harmless fantasy trips. The Dragon Quest Monsters series is about a group of humans and monsters. With monster-catching and fusing gameplay, especially whimsical settings, and graphics that are even more cartoonish than usual, Dragon Quest Monsters is everything a spinoff should be.

It upholds the fundamental elements of the Dragon Quest series and takes a distinctive path to create its own identity. But Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince stands out from the rest of the spinoff series. Not only is it the first Dragon Quest Monsters game to be released outside of Japan since 2011’s DQM: Joker 2, but it’s also the first to be released on other platforms since 2010’s DQM Online.
