Description:
Pokemon Violet is set to release, and it’s radically different from the norm. Nintendo calls Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet ($59.99 each) the first open-world Pokemon games (realistically it’s just one game, as all Pokemon generations have variant versions with some differences, but that are effectively the same). Given one hour of real playing time with a Scarlet/Violet demo on the Nintendo Switch, we recommend that those hungry for an open-world Pokemon game watch these upcoming games when they go live November 18.
Let’s get the biggest question about this Pokemon generation first and foremost out of the way: Yes, this is an open-world game. Players will be free to embark on Pokemon Scarlet/Violet’s epic quest across the entire Paldea region, reminiscent of Pokemon Legends: Arceus’ sprawling zones and Pokemon Sword/Shield’s Wild Area. I wandered through a bit more than a fifth to a quarter of the demo’s map, and it was quite massive when compared to the Wild Area in Sword/Shield. The game’s corresponding LegendaryPokémon,n “Koraidon” or “Miraidon,” are obtained early in the game and are used as mounts instead of party members. For example, you can summon Koraidon and ride him like a horse. Well, like a horse that can climb up a sheer cliff and fly,
Pokémon Violet NSP Key features:
- True Open World: Unlike other linear games, True Open World allows players to visit the entire Paldea region, visiting gyms, Titans, and bases of Team Star in any sequence.
- Legendary Pokémon: Miraidon (Somewhat). The game’s main Legendary Pokémon, which evolves to ride across land, water, and air.
- Terastallizing: The crystallization that takes place during Terastallization, in which any Pokémon switches into a crystallized form that enhances attacks or alters its elemental “Tera Type”, is one of the battle mechanics.
- Auto Battles: The player may place their lead Pokémon in the overworld to collect resources and engage in combat with random Pokémon without any help.
- Three Storylines: The journey is divided into three missions: Victory Road (gym battles), Path of Legends (giant Titan Pokémon battles), and Starfall Street (rebellious Team Star battles).
