The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy– NSP was, first of all, perceived as the same ride I’d seen when I first saw it. Part of it I can attribute to the art style, because I think I was a bit looser when dealing with Kazutaka Kodaka’s other pieces, because of his unique artwork by Rui Komatsuzaki. I assumed, despite all of the marketing around the game pointing out that The Hundred Line is a joint project between Kodaka and Kotaro Uchikoshi, that it was going to be the same sort of game and structure I’d seen before in Kodaka’s previous works – ignoring the other strong creative in the room.

I’m ahead of myself, but. . . . . Unlikethe creative’s previous efforts, The Hundred Line is much more focused on its gameplay hook, not only being a classical narrative adventure game, like the Zero Escapes and Danganronpas that preceded it, but players are now given a Tactical RPG to solve. As the last bastions of humanity’s hope, you’re tasked with defending the Last Defense Academy against the Invaders that hope to steal whatever mysterious “final hope” for humanity awaits, locked inside.

The Hundred Line Last Defense Academy NSP Key Features:

• 21 Branching Storylines: The game has 101 different endings, following 21 different routes. After passing through the basic route, there is a major structural twist known as The Hundred Line 2, which gives you two games in one.
• Developed by TooKyo Games, it has the same dark, eccentric, twist-filled storytelling, gorgeous aesthetic, and mystery-solving elements.
• Chess-like Battles: Combat is turn-based and tactical; damage is clearly displayed, and movement is calculated; there is minimal to no randomness involved.
• The Voltage meter will be built by Attacking on the Voltage System: Storing this energy in 100% chunks can give students the ability to unleash devastating special techniques, or to empower themselves mid-fight.
• High-Risk Mechanics: Characters will have a “Last Defense” sacrificial ability when health is dangerously reduced, to make the player want to drive their team to the edge of the situation.
