I’ve been hearing about Iconoclasts NSP for awhile now and one I’ve actually played (and enjoyed!) at a video game convention, but unfortunately I didn’t get to play it when it was first released this year. It’s very easy to forget releases these days and with all the things I have got going in my schedule, some things just slip through.

Well, now that I’ve played through the game on the Nintendo Switch I can see where I was going wrong. What a big mistake! Not only does Iconoclasts nail the spirit of the classic 16-bit platformers that inspired it, it manages to surpass them with intuitive exploration and puzzle solving, ridiculously entertaining boss encounters and surprisingly rich story. What is even more impressive, is that you know what? Single-handedly constructed by a single individual.

Iconoclasts NSP Key Features:

• Dynamic Combat & Tool Usage: Robin has a variety of weapons (such as a stun gun and roller bombs), but her signature weapon is her Wrench. It can be used as a melee weapon, a bolt-turner, and an electric-charge conductor for puzzle solving and combat.
• Inventive Boss Battles: The game has more than 20 uniquely programmed boss battles. These need strategic thinking, often involving the use of the environment and weapon combinations to exploit their defenses.
• Environmental Puzzles: Progression features solving puzzles with mechanics, swinging over electrified tracks and picking up weapons for charging up and blowing through hazards.
• Materials can be collected in treasure chests to craft Tweaks in the Crafting & “Tweak” System. They offer additional minor advantages in gameplay, such as increased movement speed or temporary damage mitigation, giving you the flexibility to customize Robin to suit your style.
