Mario & Luigi: Brothership Switch NSP The first Switch won’t be going away quietly while we wait for any news regarding the Nintendo Switch 2. This was splendidly shown in Nintendo’s very entertaining June Nintendo Direct, which kicked off with a very pleasant surprise: a brand new Mario & Luigi role-playing game. After 2015’s Paper Jam for 3DS, Mario & Luigi: Brothership is the first installment in the cherished series of fraternal turn-based role-playing games in over ten years.

More importantly, it’s the first following the previous disastrous series developer, AlphaDream, which closed in 2019. But Brothership is in development by some of the original creators of the past titles, Nintendo says. Either way, I had a chance to time test it for around 90 minutes at a preview event, and it should be another late-life smash hit for the O.G. Switch, featuring some of the console’s best graphics to complement the fun action.

Mario and Luigi Brothership Key Features:

• Dual-Character Combat: Battles involve pressing the A or B button at the right time in order to inflict the maximum damage and counters Bros.
• Luigi Logic: A new mechanic in which Luigi can act independently to solve puzzles, interact with objects or help in battle.
• Battle Plugs System: Plugs that can be swapped out and can be customized for combat bonuses like guaranteed criticals or even heal over time.
• Shipshape Island Exploration: An isle afloat will enable you to sail to various islands starting from cannons and dispatch the brothers to new places.
• New 3D Art Style: The game’s graphics are now fully 3D, away from the traditional 2D sprites but still carrying with them the style of the series.
