Disney Illusion Island: The best-remembered Disney games would be Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion for the Genesis/Mega Drive. In an era when you could expect most Disney games to be of pretty good quality (with some outliers–I’m looking at you, Mickey Mousecapade and Fantasia), these two titles stood out for being solid platformers with fun mechanics that also integrated that trademark Disney whimsy and wonder into the mix.

This is a pretty tall order to fill, and there are a couple of significant issues holding it back from legend status. But, in many ways, Illusion Island manages to hit the mark. In Illusion Island, Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy are invited to a sweet summer picnic off the grid.

Disney Illusion Island NSP Key Features:

• Play as the Fab Four: The option to play solo or play co-op with up to four other players. The mechanics are identical for all characters, but each character has a tool that moves them that is uniquely animated.
• Non-linear Progression: Explore a massive world, unlocking new abilities of movement as you go. Abilities: wall jumping, ground pounding, double jumping, grappling, and more, and you can reach areas that were previously inaccessible.
• Zero Combat: The game emphasizes the non-combat aspects, such as platforming and environmental puzzles. You’ll need to avoid enemies and overcome obstacles, but big, dynamic boss battles will test your platforming skills.
• Hidden Secrets: Thousands of “Glimts” (collectible light orbs to unlock lore and extra health), hidden Mickey shapes in the background to photograph, and Tokuns (character backstories) are found within Monoth.
• Classic Memorabilia: Explorers will be able to uncover items of memorabilia paying tribute to classic Disney cartoons and Mickey Mouse short films.
